A Review of Netflix's Outside the Wire
It’s the year 2036, and there is a civil war going on. Outside the Wire opens up to the U.S marines being ambushed, drone pilots giving support, and Lieutenant Harp-a black drone pilot-going against orders. We get to see how annoyed his superiors are for disobeying orders, and how he gets deployed.

While the opening scene of the movie had substance, the plot became watered down as the movie progressed. It’s like they said “let’s have a great first few minutes, and then go with whatever comes to mind,” because the movie became hard to follow. It was easy to get lost in trying to understand a character, or why the character was needed in the first place.

When it comes to Anthony Mackie’s role as an android-Captain Leo-a lot can be said about it. Was it the intention of the writers to make the android that way? or was it simply Anthony’s way of interpreting the role? The only semblance of a robot we got was when it was time to fight. If one missed the scenes where the body of the captain was shown, getting to know that the captain was after all a robot would be hard, except hearing it from Lt. Harp, who after finding out the plans to destroy the U.S goes on a rant on how the Captain is smart, fast, and not like us.

Generally, Anthony Mackie and Damson Idris gave their best, and we can say that the plot could have been more. Every movie should be able to draw the viewers in and allow us to enjoy and savour it. It should not be rushed, or confusing. We want to be able to understand each scene, to know a character. We have seen a lot of robot movies to identify when one isn’t going to meet our expectations. We want to be surprised. We do not want to see the twists coming. Make us nod our heads and remember the movie for how awesome it is and not how better it could have been.
Is the movie worth watching? Well, it’s left for you to find out. Give it a try, and you might just enjoy it. Watch it now on Netflix.
Genre: Adventure, Sci-Fi, Action.
