BOOK: Killing US.

Image
So, I hardly talk about my book, but I will do so today.  As you can see from the picture above, the title of the book is, "Killing US." It was first published in the month of May, 2020, where it was entered in the StoryTeller UK 2020 competition. Sadly, it didn't make it to the shortlist, but when the second edition was published a month ago, it made it to the top 50 LGBT fiction on Amazon Kindle.  The book is a novelette, which focuses on police brutality, tribalism, occultism, and homophobia.  SYNOPSIS: Ikechukwu and his friends are out to survive. They don't feel safe any longer. If they are not trying to survive the police, they are doing all they can to destroy the serial killers who are targeting a specific group of people. It's a fight against the people that are out to kill them. Are they going to survive, or perish? The book is available on Amazon, in and paperback format. You can get it here . And also on OKADABOOKS. You can get it here . I'd love...

A Review of Netflix's Outside the Wire

Image
It’s the year 2036, and there is a civil war going on. Outside the Wire opens up to the U.S marines being ambushed, drone pilots giving support, and Lieutenant Harp-a black drone pilot-going against orders. We get to see how annoyed his superiors are for disobeying orders, and how he gets deployed. Netflix While the opening scene of the movie had substance, the plot became watered down as the movie progressed. It’s like they said “let’s have a great first few minutes, and then go with whatever comes to mind,” because the movie became hard to follow. It was easy to get lost in trying to understand a character, or why the character was needed in the first place. Netflix When it comes to Anthony Mackie’s role as an android-Captain Leo-a lot can be said about it. Was it the intention of the writers to make the android that way? or was it simply Anthony’s way of interpreting the role? The only semblance of a robot we got was when it was time to fight. If one missed the scenes where the...

Tiny Pretty Things: About the series, and what to expect next.

Image
photo credit: Netflix.   By CHISOM PETER JOB.  WARNING: THIS CONTAINS A LOT OF SPOILERS.  The series opens up to Cassie Shore, played by Anna Maiche, dancing on the roof top, and a voice over by her. After a few seconds, someone in a black hoodie walks through the door and grabs Cassie's hands, where they begin to have a conversation. The conversation between the both of them is inaudible, but we see the fear clearly on Cassie's face as she moves back a little, and watching closely, she missed a step and fell off the roof. Landing on her back.  Tiny Pretty Things is a Netflix YA series that isn't like other Netflix YA series. It is different and has a lot to unpack. It tries to follow in the footsteps of Pretty Little Liars , but it misses the mark when it comes to the acting and all the subplot in it. What makes it different though, is the ballet. The ballet is a twist to the show that turns it away from the conventional high school teen drama. Although we still ge...

Netflix's Kings of Jo'Burg explores family and loyalty.

Image
The Masire brothers. photo credit: news24.com   BY CHISOM PETER JOB. Kings of Jo’Burg is a South African TV show created by Shona Ferguson of the Ferguson Films.  It is a crime fantasy TV show about the Masire brothers-Simon Masire, played by Shona Ferguson, and Mogomotsi Masire, played by Zolisa Xaluva-who rules Johannesburg’s criminal underworld.  After Mogomotsi is released from prison, he meets Phumzi, played by Cindy Mahlangu, who helps him out by giving him a ride, and also offering him some money. In the scene, the show does well in showing the fear Phumzi has on giving a ride to a stranger who she barely knows, and the dialogue that ensued between them, before she said yes to the ride.  We also get to find out the bad relationship between Mogomotsi and his son, Tlotlo Masire, played by Tk Sebothoma.  The show mainly focuses on family, loyalty, and crime. While there is a bit of dark fantasy in it, we don’t get to see much of it, which is an aspect the sh...
